Self-Portait, Nam Y. Kwon , 2012 In the Self-Portrait, Nam Y. Kwon series, I used portraits of Nam Y. Kwon and his fellow soldiers, who fought for the U.S.A.
in the Vietnam War during the 1970s, reframing the pictures of them to create an evolving, multi-layered imagery that is
ambiguous, ethereal and unexpected visual poetry. The translucent portraits reveal the subjects' personal identity but
also broader
cultural identities.
I hope the viewers consider their own faded histories, the unseen influences on
one's identity and the transitory nature of life. |
